Parisian native Romain le Bars moved to the Southern Rhone / Gard region in 2012 to work with legendary winemaker Eric Pfifferling. He spent the subsequent 7 years working under Eric at Domaine L’Anglore and whilst influenced by this great winemaker, Romain has cemented himself as now producing some of the best wines in the region, alongside his mentor.

Romain Le Bars began in 2018, whilst still working at L’Angalore, with the purchase of a 1.2 hectare parcel of vines in Tavel. That year he vinified his first vintage in his garage. Today his vineyard holdings consist of 9 hectares in Tavel, Lirac and surrounds.

Grenache (planted in goblet & trellis) and Syrah (trellis) can be found in the Tavel plot, the soil being calcareous rocky scree. In Lirac and its surroundings the soil is sand and clay with limestone throughout, planted to Ugni Blanc, Mourvedre, Grenache, Syrah, Cinsault and Carignan.

The vineyards are organically farmed, Romain firmly focused on soil health.

For these southern French varieties, in true Pfifferling style, Romain prefers to use direct pressing (approximately 3 hours) and carbonic maceration (5–9 days depending on the variety, for the finesse and freshness they give to the fruit. A less is more approach.

Fermentations are with indigenous yeasts, all wines are unfiltered and un-fined and sulfur of 1 to 2 parts is added at bottling.

These are elegant wines made in the same vein as Romain’s former employer. L’Anglore-style with vibrating energy.
