Certified Organic
with Biodynamic Practices.
Domaine de Thalie was established in 2009 when Peter Gierszewski, a wine merchant purchased 4 hectares of vines and an old farmhouse in the village of Bray.
Macon-Bray, a tiny appellation on the western edge of the Maconnais, sits up in the hills above Cluny. It encompasses wines grown within the villages of Blanot, Bray, Chissey-lès-Mâcon, and Cortambert.
An area with its own micro-climate, vineyards have a westward orientation rather than SW and sit within an altitude of 300–450 meters. Being exposed to westerly winds ensures lower average temperatures, the area also having above average rainfall.
Aligote and Chardonnay for the whites, the red grapes under vine are Pinot Noir, Gamay and Syrah.
With a diverse array of soils, clay limestone at higher altitude, granitic soils lower and a band of iridescent marls not seen widely in the area, the terroir is a huge component of what brings Peter’s wines, and each cuvee, its own personality.
The farming has been organic since the beginning, certified since 2012, and biodynamic practices are employed. Fermentation is with indigenous yeast; the wines are un-fined and unfiltered. A small part of sulphur is added at bottling.
The estate has grown and now has 5.5 hectares of vineyards. A new cellar was created in 2023.
Fresh and precise, these are wines of exceptional value.
